I did cut a 0.050" internal groove the depth of the thread at the blind shoulder. I threaded at 500 rpm closing the half-nut to start each pass at the blind shoulder and opening the half-nut at the pass finish.

Used a Vardex full topping insert 3IL16 and a YE3-2N anvil on a AVRC075 tool holder. I used the reverse helix method where spindle rotation is CW and feed is towards the tailstock. The part is an adapter for mounting my focuser on a Celestron 14 Edge telescope. The photo below shows threading a 3.29-16UN internal right hand thread up from a blind shoulder in 6061-T6 aluminum.

Need Help!- manual programming help for incremental infeed threadingįor internal threading on my manual lathe I use the reverse helix method for high speed threading of RH internal threads. With the Tormach CNC lathe, could the threading speed be increased to the 600rpm minimum spindle speed recommended by Vardex for cutting an M42x0.75 thread up to a blind shoulder in 6061-T6 aluminum? Even with the very cool Graziano constant mesh transmission with electromagnetic clutches' ability to instantly stop the spindle, I needed to use the minimum 75rpm when threading up to a shoulder. This piece was written for a different forum illustrating the real need for the Tormach CNC lathe which just happens to be about the same size, has the same D1-4 spindle, and could use the same insert thread tooling as my Graziano SAG12 manual lathe. Reversing with the half-nut closed was at 300rpm by changing the speed on the joystick made for really quick job. Threading with the SAG12 up to a shoulder was GREAT! The stop button at the end of the joystick really works to instantly stop the spindle. I had to leave the half-nut closed as this was metric thread on my SAG 12 with inch leadscrew. Used a Vardex AL050-3 tool with 3ER0.75ISO full profile insert and YE3-1N anvil. I threaded an external RH M42x0.75 thread in 6061-T6 up to a shoulder on my Graziano SAG12 today.
